I was sold on this war partly because I believed the Iraqi people wanted to be free of Hussein. I don't see that at all. Even in the southern towns where Hussein is weakest, there is real hatred of Americans & resistance.

Let's not rush to any conclusions here. So far, I'm hearing a bunch of reporters who have never seen combat before reporting 'ohmygosh, someone is shooting at us'. I have seen no evidence that those doing the shooting are the shi'a population of the south, but quite a bit that they are Saddam's men, loyal to the regime, who are unlikely to survive its demise in any case.
