Not so fast JB.

"Mistrust" was a euphemism for "they think we are a bunch of back stabbing bastards who would say and do anything to get what we want without any regards to whom we kill, plunder, and ravage".

This is a long way from being the opposite of "Trust". I may not trust you, but if I don't have such a "mistrust" of you I'd be willing to cautiously work with you for common good.

Certainly Israel doesn't seem to mistrust US. I am sure if Bush was willing to make the same kind of commitment to any other nation, they too would change their attitude.

Also, the smaller Persian Gulf states don't really mistrust each other.

I don't think Turkey mistrusts EU.

I am pretty sure Iran does not mistrust any of their non-Arab neighbors, and there are quite a few of those.

In general nobody in this world really trusts anybody else. This is not a trait exclusive to the middle east. But not trusting and mistrusting are not the same thing.
