Well, I knew nothing about israel until last year when I worked with a whole bunch of israelis here in the US. I agree with what you say- their culture is engrained in the region. However, we are talking about 6 million people, less than the population of the SF bay area. And in order to maintain any control over that nutty place virtually everyone has to serve in the army. The guy I worked for fought in lebanon when he was just a teenager- I think it damaged him emotionally fwiw. The israelis who I know would all like to live here in the US, it is only their loyalty to the homeland that keeps them in israel. Fine but how much is loyalty worth? I think we all know what the ramifications of the relationship the US has with israel has done to our relations with the ME. Is the sentimentality of 6 million people worth it, I don't think so. I say give the palestinians a state and try to live in peace over there for a few years and if that can't be done the israelis should be offered US citizenship and come here.
