Tim, in focusing on my DRAM comment, you missed my overall point. Are you fine with the notion that the rest of the world can go to hell as long as America is O.K.?

We are already living in a world economy, complete with all of the benefits it confers. It makes no sense to separate the politics and the military from economic concerns, for it all ties together.

That's why if you like America being in control of its own economic destiny, you should appreciate America's role on the world stage. An isolationist America risks becoming irrelevant in this world as other nations (including China and India) figure out how to be more dominant world players, and not just economically.

<Even if you think the deaths in my family in Korea were useful so as to make DRAM cheaper today.>

No, I did not mean that. I thought I had made it clear that I'm grateful for America's intervention in Korea, and not just so that I can order DRAM for pennies per megabyte.

My DRAM comment was made to try and approach the argument from another angle, since it's obvious you could care less about defending Korean citizens (even if you excluded the ingrates). If you don't give a damn about them, at least give a damn over the economic benefits of trade between America and South Korea. Are they alone worth the lives of American soldiers? Not really, but the peace of mind that comes with world security sure is. (And that peace of mind also has its economic benefits.)
