Safa: US not complying with Geneva Conventions The Follow-Up Committee for the Support of Lebanese Detainees in Israeli Jails complained Monday that the United States was not complying with the Geneva Conventions. The head of the follow-up committee, Mohammed Safa, said the US was not abiding by the Geneva Conventions in its treatment of prisoners, and thus should not insist that others do so. “Are the Americans implementing the Geneva Conventions at the Guantanamo detention center in Cuba?” Safa asked, at a Khiam Rehabilitation Center meeting of former inmates. “Are the Geneva Conventions applied by the Israelis, who have detention centers where thousands of Palestinians suffer?” The remarks were in response to US President George W. Bush’s call for implementing the Geneva Conventions for US prisoners detained by the Iraqis. Safa added that he will be sending a message to the Geneva-based Human Rights Committee. dailystar.com.lb
