Joe Lyddon and others,

To restate:

The best feature you could add is a hover/Java capability to show the referenced post when you hover over the post number and hold down another key (a function key or Ctrl, etc.)

John's response:
I assume you're referring to the subject page. That's an interesting idea. I like it. Might be alot of information to store in the subject page, unless it's just the post number or "to" person.

To clarify, for:
Message 18751584
I would like to hover over the blue Post #16590 and perhaps with an additional key pressed be able to see that entire Post #16590 (or if long or wide only the first n lines and nn characters per line). Like at sites that let you see a submenu by hovering over a category item.

For an "example" look at
cme.com
and hover over Market Data

Maybe the user could have some control over the position, starting with upper left and going "clockwise" or otherwise repositioning the sub-window to be out of the way for reading or preparing a Reply.

The feature should be available while reading a post, while Viewing any one of Next 10 Messages viewed with Next 10, or while Respond-ing or Reply-ing to a post. When 40 posts are shown on a page, it may be too resource-intensive - that's your call.

But this would facilitate responding and make SI much more valuable - in use of users' time and in the quality of the message boards.
