U.S. Senate reverses, votes to slash Bush tax cut
Reuters, 03.25.03, 2:41 PM ET
WASHINGTON, March 25 (Reuters) - Unexpectedly reversing a position taken only last week, the
Republican-led U.S. Senate on Tuesday voted to slash President George W. Bush's proposed
$726 billion tax cut plan to around $350 billion.

The Senate voted 51-48 to add the change to the $2.2 trillion 2004 federal budget it is due to
complete by Wednesday. It voted 62-38 on Friday against a similar effort by a group of Republican
and Democratic moderates concerned about spiraling U.S. budget deficits.
