Heroic and Free Spirited Iranian Nation:
The Iranian year 1381 (2003 of Christian Calendar) has just ended with all its experiences and triumphs, and now the year 1382 (which for many is destined as the year of Iran’s liberation and freedom from the clerical rule) is unfolding before our eyes with many hopes and constructive promises. No doubt we owe all those achievements (which helped lay the foundation for a progressive, secular and democratic future Iran) to the efforts and sacrifices of nations men and women who for a quarter of a century have risen up against Iran’s backwards and Mafia-style oligarchy regime, and many of them have lost all their belongings and even some have been martyred through executions in the hands of this criminal “religious” regime by kissing the robes they would be hanged with.
In the past year all Iranians, especially women and youth intensified their public and underground struggles through ignoring the principals of regimes policies and by systematic enforcing of the “non-violent civil disobedience” movement on one hand, and burying in the history’s graveyard of the so called “reformist” faction of the regimes policy of “Reforming from within” on the other hand. They have succeeded to inflict a deadly and decisive strike against Islamic Republics frameworks, and have further exposed and weakened it in the global scene. These are deadly blows to a regime already lacking any popular roots during times that strategic and tactical coinciding the democratic-secular movement in Iran and global unity against terrorism and fundamentalism have turned it into a wounded and desperate subject, stuck between an increasing public hatred and a new world order( due to its own lawlessness and savage policies during the past 25 years)
In the past year, the regime of repression and deceit has become increasingly exposed not only inside domestically, but also throughout the world. Moreover, its “legitimacy” has seriously become questionable by the historic Esfand 9th (Feb.28th) widespread boycott of the regimes last puppet show elections by the millions of Iranian people. Thanks to the aspirations, wisdom and sacrifices of the freedom loving Iranian nation, the writers and publications who posed as a “mild” opposition to the mullah’s rule and for the last six years of Khatami’s “presidency” and have been claiming that the regime is backed by most people, have been exposed. Some political groups and their leaders gave in to the regime’s technocrats and tried to waste the blood of their fallen friends and companions despite their claims on republicanism. Writers and publications that through the simple and naive elements encouraged the U.S. and European Union to the emergence of “ ayatollah Gorbachev “ in Iran, and the possibility of reform from within in a regime that has been on a collision course with the Iranian nation for more than two decades. A fruitless effort accompanied by the disgraceful writings and flattering in order to pave the way for the safe return of the American oil companies to Iran and saving the religious regime with no concern for the demands of the oppressed Iranians and the fact that thousands of students and political prisoners are vanishing in regime’s prisons.
The increasing global awareness of the deep gap and conflict between the Iranian nation and the ideological and political base of the regime of mullahs in itself is big factor in accelerating the fallout process of this regime. In addition, smart and timely movements such as the commemoration of the 18th of Tir (July 9th) student uprising, 16th of Azar (Dec.7th) official student’s day, 17th of Day (Jan. 7th) the anniversary of women’s liberation from “hejab” (the mandatory Islamic dress code), continuous demonstrations and protests towards the treatment of the political prisoners in Iran during the United Nations human rights team visit in Tehran, the 9th of Esfand (Feb. 28th) massive boycott of the elections, celebrating the “fire festival” three times despite the colliding of it with the religious mourning this year, and finally the commemorating of the Iran’s oil’s nationalization day altogether made for a collective and successive movement which underlines a very basic and fundamental conflict between the Iranian people and the ruling oligarchy, so obvious that in no way could be hidden from the political observers, foreign leaders such as president Bush and some House and Senate representatives(a critical support for the struggle of the Iranian people for gaining their freedom and self-rule). Following the widespread protests of the Iranians, in junction with the formation of a united front of the political forces which believe in complete rejection of the current religious constitution, separation of religion and the government, need for a referendum in order to determine Iran’s future form of government, and the creation of a democratic and progressive new constitution by the true representatives of the people (which will be designed to protect citizen’s personal and social rights), conditions are tilting in favor of the Iranian nation. Its critical that all political groups (especially those abroad who enjoy a great level of immunity from regime’s repressive security forces inside) get together and unite based on their common goals, and push for a free referendum and elections. No time must be wasted in creating the groundwork for the nation to be adequately represented in the international political world.
The “ Student Movement Coordination Committee for Democracy in Iran” (SMCCDI) as the heir to the true values of “The Third Force” along with most sincere greetings for the Iranian new year (norouz) formally announces that all political elements (especially student organizations who have been previously affiliated with the regime and only recently have separated from it lack the competence and validity for prescribing any alternatives for Iran’s future due to their questionable and failed records of the last seven years. These groups better help organize free elections under United Nation’s observation if they really regret their past cooperation with the regime and let Iran’s future be determined by the people themselves (obviously, given that they have not had any connection with the regime’s security apparatus and haven’t participated in repressive and inhuman measures against people). Furthermore any future cooperation with the regime is doomed to fail.
Happy Norouz and Happy New Year,
Farvardeen 1, 1382 (March 21, 2003)
