These seem like very reasonable suggestions. I am struck by the vast differences between your blueprint and the aggressive unilateral approach being pursued by the Bush administration. I don't see any bold initiatives yet from the Dems either, although I suppose we'll hear quite a bit more from them next year as we go into the elections. Still I'm not as optimistic as you are. I hope I'm wrong and that we are not in some kind of destructive "clash of civilizations" cycle, but I see no easy way out of this mess. Bush has played the fear card perfectly and has manipulated the national mood of vulnerability into a patriotic USA "uber alles" show of strength reaction that has begun to polarize this nation as it has already polarized the world. I am afraid that we have started down a road of violence begetting more violence and that it may not end before it gets even more horrific.
