Clappy: Our President is in damage control mode and will work to 'moderate expectations'...He never really talked with Congress or the country BEFORE the war about the potential risks or costs of 'a pre-emptive strike' on Iraq...Now that we're not seeing a best-case scenario and may experience lots of casualties we hear Bush and Rumsfeld tell us this is just 'the early stages' of a long war...Notice how NONE of our Administration members have sons or daughters fighting for our country (and I heard there is only one Congressman with a son in combat)...IMO, our decision-makers don't have enough skin in the game --> they shirked their responsibility and never really had an open, honest and effective debate on the wisdom of going to war with Iraq...Ritter has been attacked by the warhawks BUT at least he has fought for 12 years as a marine and was a weapons inspector in Iraq -- I think he understands the complexity of the Middle East much better than many of our policy makers who unfortunately have never really been out in the trenches...these comments from Ritter hit home for me...

<<...I hope I'm wrong, for the sake of the American lives that are going to be lost. Remember I'm a 12 year veteran of the Marine Corps. I fought in the first Gulf War. I know what war is about. I know what defending my country is about.

This is a bad war, because it has nothing to do with the defense of the United States of America. Iraq doesn't have weapons of mass destruction. The Bush Administration has pulled an enormous lie to the international community; to the American people.

And now we're in Iraq --carrying out the right-wing neo-conservative motives of a handful of people; the Richard Perle's, Paul Wolfowitz's; the Dick Cheney's. And we've allowed them to hijack our foreign policy...>>

THIS IS AN ELECTIVE WAR THAT OUR COUNTRY CHOSE TO FIGHT -- remember the rush to war was opposed by the Security Council from the U.N. as well as the majority of the people in this world...Our 'Coalition of the Willing' is nothing like what Bush's patient father had for the first Gulf War...Many in the Arab world view The United States as an arrogant colonizing power that is fighting an illegitimate war...JMHO.
