As a follow up to Ritter's analysis, I heard a story on the news last night from a reporter at the Jordan-Iraq border. They were expecting to be inundated by refugees. So far, none are coming across the border, but....
there are hundreds of Iraqis headed home to join the resistance. Could it be that they don't see us as liberators? Naw, that couldn't be. Just 'cuz the Russian ambassador said that it is now really obvious that we aren't there to liberate Iraq doesn't mean that the Iraqi people disbelieve Shrub. Of course they have to believe him, for he is an honorable man.
Boy, the Shite is gonna hit the fan. I think we fucked up big time, and all of us who were against the war, and presumably hoping our analysis of the situation was wrong, have been right about how this is gonna go down. I saw an article on Buzzflash yesterday, which I will look for, saying that the generals couldn't put this thing together the way they wanted because Rummy had to micromanage everything, and that we are now in deep doo-doo because we don't have heavy equipment, just the fast, light armor stuff. I'll see if I can find it. Rummy told them "Don't worry, the war will be over in 2 days".

PS, re yer post 934; I see us as an arrogant colonizing power, so why shouldn't the Arabs see it that way, too? Just because I'm Jewish doesn't mean we can't find some common ground. |
