But then they have a commitment to fill out a column for the nyt and a time
line.. so write something.

When I think back to the last major wars we fought, not counting Desert Storm which was really just a battle, not a war, seven days is zilch. It took us 7 days to move, what, three miles inland from the beaches after D-day? What was 7 days in the Korean War, or the Vietnam War?

The problem is that we've become a fax/cellphone/broadband/fast food/video game society and think an hour is a long time. TV shows wrap everything up in 30-60 minutes. We get impatient waiting more than 60 seconds at the drive-thru window. And we expect this war to be as fast paced as our lives.

Ain't going to happen. It's time we sat back and relied on the news weeklies to keep us up to date. That's about the right time frame to expect significant changes in the progress of the war.
