Last I checked, most countries (including the US) are against indiscriminate bombing of civilian populations. They also tend to frown on countries do so and lie baldfacely about it.

If Kissinger were, say, Russian, and did such a thing, we'd say: well, that's the brutal Soviets for you. If a leader in a lesser country did so, we'd call for his head. But, if an American does it, it's ok because we're the good guys? That kind of twisted double-standard is part of the reason more and more people doubt that we really *are* the good guys.
