That's a too high number of casualties. I don't think the US administration is prepared to pay this price.

The march of columns of tanks and associated materiel through the desert unopposed is a powerful image even without the hugging by the locals. But fact is they are spread to thin and confined on a long a narrow corridor. That opens the side lines to be traveled through unopposed -on ground at least- and now I believe they will push down south over unprotected ground.

To supply the advancing forces becomes more and more difficult. The opening of a theater of operations in the North, dropping parachutists seems more as a deterrent to the Turkish army rather than part of the overall strategy.

Put time in the equation and things can turn to the worse. As time passes the enemy can more clear see its real possibility.

Decapitation failed (despite still unknown if Saddam was hit)

Shocked and Awe failed.

Apache helicopter charge failed.

This only make the locals bolder I suppose.

So far the market is in a suspense.

Forces are fighting with sheer adrenalin. Within five days -we are on the sixth day- it needed already time for get more ammo, rest a bit, being aliviated by fresh troops. The closest heavy division to help the forces is in the Red Sea. Ten days away form the theather of operations to influence the battle. That may prove a mistake to have kept fresh heavy troops so far.
