I saw somewhere that a US official said "we" would be in Iraq for 20 years. How can he make such a statement in a democracy where the president must run for election every 4 years.? Does he know something we don't? Which brings me to the main point. Simply put there is no way that what is left of US democracy can survive if the nation embarks on a long-term course of empire.
