It's really quite sad that force must be applied to assure peace. Unfortunately, the world is occasionally occupied with rulers whose egomaniacal aims extend beyond their own realms. Some would say that Bush is included in that group, but I'm hard pressed to agree. I like Bush, not overwhelmingly, but certainly more than his predecessor. Strength is a difficult thing to wield. Application must be well defined. I believe, despite what the opposition claims, that it is well defined here.
I will say this to show how poorly I think the media has covered all the events leading up to and including the war: I rarely heard analysis of Powell's or Bush's words that matched what I read or heard from their speeches or commentary. As proof of this, I point to the media's sudden "surprise" at how tough the Iraqis are fighting. Neither Powell, Franks, or Bush said the war would be easy, or over in a week. All said they expected a rough battle, particularly as we approached Baghdad, and that it would be longer than the media was insinuating. The media generally ignored these comments, as they ignored most of what was said leading up to the conflict.
I am not surprised the Arabs view us with suspicion. The crap the media spews plays directly into their hands...not what our leaders say, but how the media spins it. Pretty pathetic.
