10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.
I guess historians missed the heavens disappearing and everything melting and being renewed.
[1] 11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[2] That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.
Righteousness?? Here, now?? Where?? When?? I see the same old sinful people that have been here since the fall. We are them. We have more things to argue over, but we are still the same and we certainly don't live in "the home of righteousness".
I, for one, hope that when He returns, we put on incorruptibility that is real, because I, like Paul, still do the things I hate.
This is my brick wall I run in to when someone tells me that all prophecy was fulfilled in ad 70. If this is the new heaven and earth, we are in trouble.
Have a good one Greg.
