Comes back to the same old same old: countries act in their own self-interest. No more, no less. If it is in their interest to support a totalitarian regime that commits attrocities against its populace, sadly they will. When it's in their interest to come out against such a regime, then that's the course they'll take, and if necessary they can turn on a dime. In each case, they'll select the justification that best suits them.

Cynical, and disturbing, but reality. Would be better if there was less situational ethics/moral relativism, but of course there are truly very few absolutes. It's a continuum; just need to push the slide further towards the absolute side.

I do find the old love-it-or-leave-it position disturbing. One can disagree with the war, yet support and sympathize with the women and men over there in the thick of it, and not in any way support or sympathize with Saddam.

My (last) two cents.

Regards to all
