an observation: USArmy resembles a caravan of SUV's

in VietNam we worked with foot soldiers and helicopters
air strikes supported ground units

here it seems we have built in a tremendous vulnerability with required fuel
I heard yesterday that 250,000 gallons of fuel were delivered to Basra
they were concerned about the risk of having the supplies hit by snipers and grenade launchers
talk about asymmetrical damage!!!

a $300 rocket launched grenade takes out a truck of gasoline
the reporter mentioned that the area requires a fresh 250,000 gallons every three days !!!

our USArmy is as fat as our fleet of cars
as fat as our population

THIS ARMY'S VULNERABILITY LIES IN ITS SUPPLY REQUIREMENTS
the entire Army is moving north on armored vehicles, tanks, halftracks, etc
they run at 2 gallons per mile, perhaps 4-6 gallons per mile
I have yet to see a regular truck that gets 5 miles/gallon which can carry 20 men
