ON March 12, in an earlier response to your post #14417, I wrote
Islamic scholars call for jihad to defend the faith
When I began my quest to increase my understanding of the Islamic world, I wouldn't have understood the significance of this article. What this means is the neo-cons have just handed Bin Luddite victory. He can call for jihad all he wants to, but he just doesn't have the standing. From day one long before the twin towers, his goal was to start a war of civilizations between the west and the Islamic world. The towers wasn't about killing Americans. It was about "poking the US in the eye", hoping the US would do something foolish. He knew he couldn't start a jihad, but the US could. In the absence of a caliph, only the great religious schools can proclaim a jihad because of a perceived threat to the umma. That‘s what this article is about. I don’t know where Bin Luddite is, but I’m sure he’s celebrating. Way to go George.
Others, in ignorance of the Islamic world, characterized my post as "complete horseshit". I can only say you need to educate yourself. Consider

We now have a broad spectrum of the Middle East violently opposed to the US. Anti-Americanism is rampant in Europe, in Russia, in China and the rest of Asia. Hell, they're even marching in Japan. Latin America has long had reservations about America's tendency for pre-emptive action. We've managed to unite the Shi'ites and the Sunnis.
islam-online.net - a site for perspective, not accuracy.
The neo-cons wanted a new paradigm. They got it. An entire world united in opposition to the US. So I repeat - Way to go.
