Reasons:
1. they don't buy the connection between Iraq and Al Queda/Islamism/terrorists.
2. they see U.S. goals as unlimited.
3. more generally, they reject our unilateralism.

Jacob,

You are projecting your views onto Putin. Russia has been opposing the US on Iraq since 1992. Russia has undermined the UNSC sanctions against Iraq for a decade, a key reason I don't but the notion of multilateral containment. The question to ask is why has Russia been so keen on resisting US opposition to Saddam Hussein for so long and why was it so important that they did some minor damage to their relationship with the US.

The world is nowhere as black and white are you would have us believe: Israel and US bad, Russia and Palestine good.

In all these conflicts, better to assume that there are no angels and no victims.

Paul
