I know, Ron. That was not published in Mark Twain's lifetime. Though the emotions running through this are palpable, he, the most revered writer in American, was afraid of the repercussions of publishing it. How did the Germans get caught up in the Nazi horror indeed, because of a scenario not unlike this...I guess if Twain was afraid to speak his mind, we must be some pretty wild and crazy idealists...I know censorship in the Vietnam war was not as bad as this one....and no one called anyone a traitor, except for maybe Jane Fonda...and she WAS IMO...However 30 years ago, people had read the Constitution, now when they hear the word, they simply say "Gesundheit".
