Somebody doesn't quite get it...

I know...I've read those complaints in the past. In the Bay Area there were some protests about using the dolphins. (I know, there always are protests about something!!!)

The dolphins are trained to mark the mines....not touch the mines. From the news link I just posted:

Officials say the dolphins are taught to keep a safe distance from the mines and face little risk in carrying out their duties.

I love animals, and I would never want to see an animal abused. These animals seem to love their "work" and the interaction with their trainers. IMO the ability for these animals to work with their trainers, and save human lives has to be considered as a very positive achievement!!!
