Windpower has its advantages.

However, most places wind power will not work. The best way to look at it is in return on investment. If the investment can not pay for itself fast enough it is not worth doing.

That analysis is good for the environment.

Building a windmill and its support system takes a lot of energy and land area. If you can not generate enough energy from the windmill fast enough it takes too long to generate enough energy to make up for the amount of energy it took to build, support and maintain the windmill. It is not just about money.

That is why windmills will be limited in their contribution. My guess is 5 to 10% max nationwide.

In some regions it could be a very big contributor (eg. North Dakota or West Texas), but nationwide and worldwide is what counts.
