I hadn't seen your previous post, nor had I yet read the article you posted, though I have now.

I know that both the Syrians and Iranians have recently (pre-attack) expressed the fear that they are next. A perusal of a map makes clear that Iran is the most geographically vulnerable, while Syria/Lebanon run a close second and are more militarily vulnerable than Iran.

I see no reason why they would wish to sit back and wait for the US coin toss, or to be picked off piecemeal when cooperation now might well prevent their likely plight.

If they don't wait too long, I don't believe we could possibly reinforce quickly enough to prevent defeat under the weight of their and Iraq's combined assault.
