Yes it is very risk. I think this has been a very dumb venture and my views are aligned with the article I posted. As for the Strait of Hormuz, it is impossible to keep it open against Iran's wishes. I know the geography of the region pretty well. The strait is very narrow and very shallow (enough that tide after on either side of the strait is 15-30 minutes lagging). A shoulder based rocket launcher is sufficient to do the job. One sunk oil tanker will shut it down for a while. And another one will take its place once it is removed.
