<i.>Sharon is evil and needs to be sacked but the Israelis cling to him like rats to a sinking ship. And the only way he gets away with this shit is because he has the US's support. No good can come from our continued support of this piglet.
No, Sharon is in power because the Israeli Left did all it could to try to bring peace over the course of ten years and no matter what they offered, it was not enough for the Palestinians.
Z, its best you don't get me started because its not entirely true what you're saying. While its true the left made concessions, I wouldn't have bought off on them and I'm not Palestinian. They were the absolute minimum needed to keep the Palestinians at the table.
>If you were to look deeper, you will find there are reasons for a people to become so desperate that they blow themselves up, and its not because of Allah and the 7 virgins that everyone jokes about.
There are plenty of countries with poorer populations than the Palestinians, and the people don't blow themselves up. Iraq is sending suicide bombers at us. Al-Qaida sends middle-class suicide bombers. Many of the Palestinian bombers are university-educated students. There's a religious sanction for it.
These are not analogous situations. Israel is THE power in the region. What chance does a Palestinian have competing when the Palestinians don't even have a standing army. The Iraqis have an army......they can fight back. The Palestinians, instead, are at Israel's beck and call, and fatass Sharon plays with them. You take away a person's belife in a future, then you take away their desire to live.
The major reason the Israelis have to keep the Palestinians on lockdown the way they do is because the Palestinians use tactics that are very, very underhanded, such as dressing up at Hassidic Jews, hiding bombs in the guise of a pregnant woman, transporting militants and weapons in ambulances, using children as human shields, etc... Groups like Amnesty International deny that these things happen, but we're seeing seeing occurrences like these among the Iraqis right now, and they're fairly widespread throughout the Arab world.
That's right.........you sound like our leaders who are complaining that Iraq is also not playing fair. That was the same complaint King George had about the colonists.
When people are desperate, they use desperate measures.
