The British occupied Iraq for a good part of the 20th Century and it wasn't a very pleasant experience for the Iraqi people. The British dropped chemical weapons from airplanes on rebellious Iraqis. The first time that was ever done. I'm sure the Iraqis have a memory of what it felt like to be occupied by a foreign force. As ruthless as Saddam's rule has been, patriotism is a very strong force. The ultimate success of this war campaign will rest upon whether the Iraqis overcome their patriotism and are ready to accept another colonial rule.
