that there is some inherent defect in the Muslim world that needs correcting with force, right now, unilaterally.
Sure there is.. The same inherent defect that existed hundreds of years ago in western society when the pope and the catholic church had the ability to make a government illegitimate.
Except in this case, it's a militant Wahabbist sect (Ihkwan, or Muslim Brotherhood) being in charge of the Muslim holy sites and effectively controlling the "tone" of how Islam is preached throughout the world.
Just how do you think the Saudis came to power in the first place, throwing out the Hashemites from the Hijaz?? They formed a family partnerships with the Wahabbists, formed their own army of fanatical Islamic militants, won their victory, and THEN, the Saudis massacred those fighter when it became obvious they were becoming a threat to their own power.

So the quid pro quo between the Wahabbists and Saudi royal family is that the Saudis will be considered "legitimate" rulers of the Hijaz and holy sites, in exchange for the Wahabbists controlling them, and their religous "evangelism" funded by Saudi oil. It's no coincidence that nearly every mosque in the United States and Europe was built with Saudi money...
Now the Saudis are faced with a popular revolt by these militant groups, who extort ever greater amounts of money from them in order to conduct their stealthy Jihad.
So yes.. there is something inherently dysfunctional with how Islam is being spread throughout the world, with militant ideas being injected into its teachings.
And it would be the same thing with Christianity, were the concept of militant Crusade being included in their religious teachings...
That's why I would personally feel more comfortable with re-establishing the Hashemites to power in Arabia, doing away with the Saudis, and more importantly, the Wahabbists.
