:) Well, at the risk of being blackballed by NSA, let me say that Mark Twine had it right, violence is the last refuge of incompetent.

At the core of it the issue is this: Do you believe in Peace.

This is not a question about war. I am not asking if one supports this war or not. Whether past actions during cold war were justified or not. The question is do you believe that a world in peace is possible and desirable.

Most people, though not all, would say peace is a desirable state of affairs. Few however believe in it as a viable and achievable goal. Many people believe that conflict is inevitable. Perhaps, but they confuse it with violent conflict being inevitable. A slew of books have been written about this and they somehow manage to not see a reality which is clearly laid out in front of them; they see peace as a period during which you must rebuild for the next war, ignoring that every society in the world has evolved to have peaceful coexistence within itself.

People who believe in peace are often considered naive and idealistic. They are often labeled as living in la la land. But believing in Peace is not the same as being ignorant of obstacles to peace including our own selfish biases. Just because I believe in peace, it doesn't mean that somehow I am blind to the hatred and selfishness that roams the world. It just means that I think it is possible and is in our best interest. Therefore we should have a plan to make it happen.

And this lack of planning for peace is the problem with the hawk's agenda. They believe in conquering and beating into submission. It is an extended cease fire they are after rather than peace, because they feel they can win the war but working through peace is an uncharted sea for them.

welcome aboard :)
