FOR PURPOSES OF EASE OF RESPONSE---I HAVE ENTERED YOUR INITIAL RESPONSE IN QUOTES AND MY RESPONSE IN CAPS.
LET ME PREFACE MY REMARKS BY SAYING----IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT OUR STOCK BOARDS ON SI HAVE GOTTEN DOWN TO BASHING OF BUSH OR SUPPORTING. IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL TO SEE SOME SERIOUS DIALOGUE AND DISCUSSION OF STOCKS.
EVEN IN WARTIME THERE ARE STOCKS TO BE BOUGHT AND SOLD AND TO BE BOUGHT AND SOLD ON THEIR MERIT.
SINCE I ENTERED THIS DIALOGUE I WILL CONTINUE. YES, LIZZIE CAN BLAME THE CURRENT PRESIDENT THAT IS HER RIGHT----HOWEVER, TO BLAME THE PRESIDENT SOLELY IS A WEAK POSITION AND IMO A WRONG POSITION TO TAKE. BUSH IS THE LEADER OF THE NATION---HE IS NOT THE SOLE ARBITER.
"You are wrong, Lizzie is correct in blaming our current president for the recession we now are struggling to overcome.
THIS RECESSION WAS IN THE MAKING EVEN BEFORE 9/11 AND THE ELECTION OF BUSH. A COUNTRY CANNOT CONTINUE ON A FAST TRACK WITH THE STOCK MARKET AND THE ECONOMY AS WE WERE DOING WITHOUT AN ACCOMPANYING DECLINE.
"I don't think this has anything to do with Iraq per se. It is true that global terrorism is an impediment to economic expansion. It is NOT clear that military involvement on this level is going to fix it."
YES WE AGREE---GLOBAL TERRORISM IS AN IMPEDIMENT TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND EXPANSION-----AS PEOPLE MUST FEEL AND BE SAFE IN ORDER TO DEVELOPE AND EXPAND IN A CREATIVE AND SCIENTIFIC FASHION FOR THE GOOD OF MANKIND. THE MILITARY CANNOT FIX ANYTHING----THEY ARE ONLY ONE MEANS.
"The problems for our markets wrt George Bush is related to his belligerent posturing on foreign policy and his hegemonic rhetoric. I do believe that our country needed to upgrade its intelligence operations that were decimated by Mr. Clinton. Covert operations and diplomatic initiatives that are handled properly would have gone a long way in neutralizing terrorism without causing the fear and anger abroad that has resulted in a LOT of money being yanked from our equity markets."
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT SOME OF THAT MONEY YANKED FROM OUR MARKETS WAS FUNDING THE TERROISTS? IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE MONEY YANKED "LOST " IN THE MARKETS IS DUE TO THE MARKET SYSTEM ITSELF? WE HAVE A SYSTEM THAT HAS ALLOWED SHORT SELLING RATHER THAN AN INVESTMENT BEING MADE ON THE BASIS OF BUYING AND SELLING AND TAKING GAINS AND LOSSES.
COVERT ACTIVITIES AND DIPLOMACY WERE NOT ABLE TO NEUTRALIZE THE TERROISM----THAT WAS PROVEN WITH THE LOSS OF LIVES IN THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. AROUND 800 EMPLOYEES OF MORGAN STANLEY WIPED OUT INSTANTLY NOT TO MENTION THE OTHER LOSSES OF LIFE.
THE BELLIGERANT POSTURING HE DID WAS A PERFECT RESPONSE FOR THE SITUATION. HOW ELSE TO FACE DOWN SADDAM AND THE TERROISTS. YOU MAY SAY I AM WRONG----ON THE OTHER HAND THERE ARE MANY WHO BELIEVE WHAT I AM SAYING IS CORRECT.
YOU HAVE ERRONEOUSLY PLACED RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE TERROSISM ON OUR AMERICAN SYSTEM OF CAPITALISM OF PRODUCTION AND TRADE. TERROISTS ARE EXTREMISTS--WITHIN THEIR OWN RELIGION AND COUNTRIES. AS SUCH THEY ARE THEN USED BY THOSE IN POWER OR SEEKING POWER.
"Don't forget, the terrorism we are now attempting to deal with is an extreme, reflexive response to gradual encroachment of the western capitalist system of production and trade into a primitive set of economies and cultures worldwide. What terrorists express in the extreme, tens of millions of people express silently.
Thoses tens of millions are all potential customers-of-the-future. Our system of production and trade depends on them for our own survival and prosperity. Alienating them is out-of-the-question. They must be educated and persuaded that our way is their way. This must be done through inclusiveness not confrontation and sewing the seeds of FUD."
YES, I AGREE WITH INCLUSIVENESS. AND THAT IS WHAT REBUILDING OF IRAQ SHOULD BE.
EACH PERSON IN THIS UNIVERSE IS AN INDIVIDUAL WITH VARYING OPINIONS AND EXPERIENCES. WE CAN PRESENT--EDUCATE---OUR ECONOMIC PHILOSOPHY. HOWEVER, ONE CANNOT EDUCATE WHEN THE PEOPLE ARE TORTURED AND CONTROLLED BY A DICTATOR OR DICTATORS. THERE ARE PEOPLE OF IRAQ WHO ARE EDUCATED AND HOPEFULLY WILL BE READY TO TAKE UP THE CALL TO REVITALIZE.
"No one is saying that it's an easy task. It will require a supreme effort from a leader with great stature, intelligence, and will. George Bush is not that person."
SO WOULD YOU OUST GEORGE BUSH AND HAVE A REVOLUTION HERE IN AMERICA? WHO WOULD YOU PUT IN? WHAT IS YOUR SOLUTION? GEORGE BUSH IS "ONLY ONE PERSON"----OUSTING BUSH WILL NOT SOLVE ANY PROBLEMS.
GEORGE BUSH IS MAKING THAT "SUPREME EFFORT" AND IN THE OPINION OF MANY HAS THAT GREAT STATURE, INTELLIGENCE AND WILL AND INTERNAL TOUGHNESS NEEDED TO MAKE THAT EFFORT.
I am convinced that Mr. Bush is a good, moral man of average intelligence and limited capability as a statesman and communicator. The job of US president in the 21st century calls for much more than that. We are the only remaining superpower left in the world and the responsiblities are enormous.
THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT THAT THE PRESIDENT OF THE USA HAVE AN IQ OF A GENIUS LEVEL. PEOPLE OF AVERAGE INTELLIGENCE CAN AND DO SURPRISINGLY ACCOMPLISH MUCH. AND, YES YOU ARE RIGHT IN COMPLEMENTING PRESIDENT BUSH ON BEING A MORAL PERSON.
YES,WE ARE THE WORLD'S LEADER AND SUPERPOWER AND OUR RESPONSIBILITIES ARE ENORMOUS-----NOT NECESSARILY BY CHOICE BUT AS HISTORY HAS UNFOLDED SINCE OUR FOUNDING AS NATION.
9/11 WAS AS GREAT AN EVENT AS THE BOMBING OF PEARL HARBOR WITH THE JAPANESE SURPRISING US THROUGH THE KOLEKOLE PASS. BOTH OF THESE EVENTS LEFT US NO CHOICE BUT TO RESPOND. WE COULD HAVE RESPONDED IN WWII BY DOING NOTHING.
OUR LEADERS IN WWII AND BUSH RECOGNIZED THE EXTREME SERIOUSNESS OF BOTH PEARL HARBOR AND 9/11, RESPECTIVELY. AND, THEY RESPONDED. |
