Asian Stocks Drop on War, Disease for the Week; Airlines Slide
By Andrew Hobbs

Tokyo, March 29 (Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks fell this week, led by Qantas Airways Ltd., Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. and other airlines, after the outbreak of a deadly flu-like disease and the war in Iraq curtailed travel.

South Korea's Kospi index dropped 3.4 percent, its fourth weekly decline in five. Eight of the 10 worst-performing indexes in Asia so far this year are subindexes tracking Korean stocks. Benchmarks in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan also declined for the week.

``Business people are terrified and they will rather use video conferencing instead of making a trip in Asia,'' said Jerry Chen, who manages the equivalent of $101 million in First Global Investment Trust Co.'s Excellent Fund. He said he doesn't plan to buy any airline shares.

Terrified ? or just the latest fad ?

Some how I don't see Hong Kong people being terrifed short of a Cat 4 Typhoon... or higher taxes.
