Arab Street willing to fight the US to the last Iraqi

At least that's one of the themes I've heard from Iraqi exiles interviewed in France. Their main concern is fear for their friends and family in the country, but a number have expressed exasperation at the fact that the noisy Arab Street has never lifted a finger to help the Iraqi population escape from oppression from Saddam Hussein. That they've had to find exile in the West, not another Arab country. That this war against Iraq is nothing new for the Iraqi citizen, who has been assassinated by the Republican Guard, by wars with Iran, what they really want is peace and freedom, not somebody's jihad.

In one debate I watched, there was an interesting exchange - an Iraqi was asking why the Arab world has never done anything to help the Iraqis, and an Egyptian replied "if you don't like Hussein, why didn't you overthrow him ?"

I think the Republican Guard is going to fight like they have absolutely nothing to lose due to the certain backlash if and when the regime falls. We're going to have a tough time of it because of this.

I saw something on the news about Bush leading a prayer vigil or something... if we want to convince Muslims that it's a holy war clash of civilizations, that's the way to do it. Talk about tone deafness....
