I did not suggest isolationism. If you actually take a look around...the invasion of Iraq has already done that.

If, as you entertain, Iran and Turkey can be wooed as allies, why did Turkey already refuse billions of $$ from the US. We couldn't buy them off...what else would you suggest?
And as for Iran...to bring one of the "Axis of Evil" countries under our wing as an ally is ludicrous. That would be no small retreat in itself. If we could retreat from that, we could retreat from the illegal invasion of Iraq too.
If bringing Iraq and Turkey in as allies is plausible, then why not bring Iraq in as an ally?
The REAL struggle here WAS supposed to be against terrorism. It is no longer that. bush has made sure of it.

One question...Pakistan is indeed an incubator of and staging ground for terrorism and posesses nuclear weapons. They are a threat to stability in the region due to increasing and sometimes violent belligerence toward India. The country is a known haven for al qaeda. Yet the US position toward them thus far has been to try to bring them under our wing. Do you see that as inconsistent when compared to our actions in Iraq??
One piece of information handles the apparent inconsistency...oil.
