There are several possibilities:

1) A quick war. Unfortunately, that will carry with it massive civilian casualties which will further turn the rest of the world against us and, in particular, will engender support for Islamic extremism. There will be calls for prosecuting American leaders as war criminals.

2) A slow war. Vietnam all over again. Or, if you prefer, our own West Bank. No assurance of success. Once it's 130 degrees in the shade, our troops will start to die of heat exhaustion.

3) Withdrawal. Humiliation of the world's remaining superpower.

We never should have gone in. There's no good way out.

BTW, I think the biggest losers will be the Kurds. I wouldn't be surprised if this results in their extermination.

As you can tell, I'm pretty pessimistic.

JMHO, of course.
