re: the sailing movie

(you wrote):

i just finished watching it ...
congratulations. the editing is
great and the music is perfect.

other than the lovett piece on the
front and the end the music was whatever
was playing on the boat's stereo when
gary had the camera on. i'm sure you
recognized the tunes - they were all
former NNBM Misterio Cancións de la Noche.

you are so funny and camera shy.
the episode with the binoculars
was hilarious.

... and the dolphins. i knew
you'd have them frolicking about
your bow. i've never seen them
do that - it must have been so cool
to see them in their natural environment.

and poor greg - how many days was he
sick? did you get sick too?

i spend so much time in tv production that
i can recognize talent pretty well. i noticed
long ago that i don't have any talent in front of
the camera - so it's not shyness so much as
a courtesy to others that i avoid "on camera"
time. ;-)

greg was spewing nasty stuff from both
ends for about 36 hours. i got a little
queasy myself in the first rough water for
about six hours until i acclimated to the
motion but i didn't loose any cookies.

it looked so cold. that really
surprised me but it shouldn't have.
i just keep thinking hot when i think
of the gulf of mexico and florida.
was that funny looking thing a shrimp
boat?

it wasn't too bad. the temps were in the
mid 50's at night for the first couple of
nights but by the time we got to tampa
we were in 80's days and high 60's nights.
the water was about 69 degrees in tampa
and over 70 in naples.

the boat was a working fishing boat with
nets spread out on booms. i don't know if
it was a shrimper or not. maybe someone
else here will know?

you really got some wonderful sailing
in - there's just too much to comment
on ... i'll have to watch it again <s>
at one point you were really moving -
what was your top speed.

when we had the spinnaker up we were holding about
7.5 knots with short bursts of 10 or more while
surfing down a wave.

it's obviously a week you'll never forget.

as i recall, it was two weeks. <g>

we drove a rental car from naples back to pensacola,
spent the night and then drove my jimmy non-stop back
to albuquerque. we were accustomed to driving in
shifts by then.

it was a long drive back from naples. about 2150 miles.
i outdrove altair18. i hit almost 80 kts once on the
way back while passing a truck. <g>
