But if oil cost more, then the U.S. economy will shrink until the cost of crude becomes cheap again. Heck! I'd go so far as to say it that North America could become self-sufficient and not import at all.

It isn't in the best interest of the OPEC countries to overcharge-- it's practically their only export product.
