Thanks for straightening me out. The first hit could have been an accident or a lone incident. After the second hit all flights were ordered grounded and the Air Force was put on alert. Now you would have done what better?

Yes, it could have been handled much better. How about calling up the Defense Secretary and Head of the Joints Chiefs of Staff and making sure that they're on top of the situation? Which they weren't; they were working away like nothing out the ordinary was going on. How about scrambling fighter jets from Andrews Air Force base to defend DC when it became apparent that the country was under attack and a plane that had taken off from DC had been hijacked over Ohio and was heading back towards the DC? The Pentagon was stuck over one hour after the first WTC tower. There was plenty of time to put up some cautionary defensive measures around DC. What happened on 9/11 was either extreme incompetence or just plain negligence. Our "defenses" weren't working that day.
