Bob has mentioned that it would be a good thing if we eliminated our dependence on Mideast oil. Sounded to me as if he is ignoring the fact that there is a world market . . . the Mideast will always contribute to the world market unless there is some sort of "enforced" shutdown of their exports. But what would happen then? I'd say we might have $100/bbl oil. But I doubt that Bob would consider this a worthwhile goal. Maybe he is instead advocating that there be a reallocation of the exported oil. . . such that say, the Mideast supply Europe, and we then take the North Sea production that now supplies Europe. Then we might be able to say that we are free of Mideast oil. That sounds like a dumb idea too. So I fail to see his point, unless he is talking about a very long-term goal to move to alternative energy sources.
