a ridiculous contention: RE; Saddam's bodyguard recently seen without Saddam, standing behind some top Iraqi government officials.

Someone just on tv said (paraphrased): "Saddam's bodyguard may have been assigned to watch top government officials that he no longer trusts".

Let me tell you that's a reach.

Why would Saddam, in his time of greatest danger, send his most trusted bodyguard away from himself, to an assignment he wasn't trained to do, and possibly not even good at? That new assignment would be 'enforcer' not bodyguard.

Why WOULDN'T Saddam, in his time of greatest danger, just kill any government officials he no longer trusts, as he has done so often in the past?

If you want to know what is true today, find out what was true yesterday.

Saddam's bodyguard has NEVER been seen with out Saddam until now. I don't believe that Saddam would ever let his most trusted bodyguard leave his side at this time, (unless of course he was dead).

IMO, the likelihood that Saddam is dead has risen from 70% to 85%. And that he's at least injured, to 95%.
