ot: the french tell you why the french act like dicks toward the usa. this foreign affairs book review looks very interesting. good news is you can't read the books anyway unless you read french. but this book review covers lots of details about the french anti-americanism. (it is clear it should be called jealously instead.) it goes way back in its historical content. this review seems to have lots of quotes one might find enlightening about the french (and their longing to be underachievers if they just could (slackers is better.)). here is one quote from the reveiw:

"Anti-Americanism developed and persisted in France because the United States thwarted, threatened, and diminished that country. Anti-Gallicism in the United States has had a fitful and shadowy life because France has only rarely risen to more than a nuisance in American eyes. In the realms of power politics, economics, and culture, French anti-Americanism is the psychological footprint of a conflict -- a conflict all the more irksome to the loser simply because the winner never seems to have paid it much attention."
