> The only problem with this war so far is totally unrealistic expectations...

Well yes. All politics aside and speaking only about the war, then yes. But I wouldn't say that it is just the media or the public that has had the wrong expectations. I think this administration has been just as wrong. The media may have amplified the views, but they did not invent them. Certainly the administration knew what the public perception was. And they never bothered to change it or tone it down. So either they too thought along the same lines, or they were dishonest.

There is another thing which is unrealistic about this war. And that too has to do with the expectations. This administration is too logical (and ideological). They fail to understand the importance of emotions on human affairs. Amongst such expectations, the one that says just because they will be providing Iraqis with better life than Saddam has, the Iraqis will automagically get to love America. This ignores the depth of suffering they have gone through and the betrayal they feel.

BTW, another example of failure to understand the human side of thing: Did you read the interview with one of the Turkish MPs explaining why he voted against the basing rights? One of the things that he complained about and said was a factor in denying the basing rights was the administration's attitude that they are buying them off with the loan guarantees.
