I didn't listen to Brinker much this weekend but I did hear his little rant on energy dependence and how we should reduce our dependence on oil. I felt that Brinker probably didn't have his facts under control and was tilting at windmills.

Please don't propagate links to those lying weasels at CARB. Those morons forced the poisoning of our water and air in California with MTBE because they refused to commission scientific studies on it's effects. Through their stupidity we are forced to burn more gasoline, not less. They are truly idiots in every sense of the word. I would treat everything they have at their web site as pure propaganda and lies. And the next time you're getting a good whiff when you fill-up you can only wonder what the stuff is doing to your health becuase no one knows.

The fact is that gasoline, a derivative of oil, is the most abundant and most cost effective source of energy we have for automobiles. Everyone that thinks that hybrids or fuel cells are going to save the day are just misinformed. They all have their own negative impact on the environment. Fuel cells, for example, usually require hydrogen which is very expensive to produce. Extra oil must be burned at power plants in the process of producing the hydrogen. That tank of hydrogen will also blow your butt to the moon in an accident. There is no free lunch.
