Your belittling of Mary A. Wright's almost thirty years of service to our country, in the some of the most isolated and dangerous parts of the world, is ungrateful and ignorant. Deputy Chief of Mission is hardly an "assistant" job. The DCM is the person who is the acting Ambassador in the country when the Ambassador is away. It is usually a person who, while the Ambassador is engaged in more of the representation functions, does the nitty-gritty work at the Mission, and keeps the Ambassador up to speed on details. Possibly she has earned your seriously considering her reasons for resigning after a long career serving in the highest posts next under an Ambassadorship an American Foreign Service Officer can attain. She did a hard, dangerous job for our country under many administrations, and deserves respect, not ridicule. She is an American hero.
