Quite to the contrary. It is in dealing with people like them that we can measure how honorable we really are.

So let me get this straight and put it on a level we all can relate to...

Say I was a local mafia don running a "protection racket", who had tried to oust my neighbor (and your friend) out of his house.. But with your assistance, you and he defeated me (after I essentially burned it down) and you helped him to rebuild it.

So I come around again and threaten to burn down BOTH of your houses if you don't pay me off. To prevent this, you an "objective", but unauthorized "arbitrator" commits you to a deal that will cost you a ton of money which none of you really can afford.. All in the interest of maintaining harmony in the neighborhood...

But I continue to threaten your neighbor and you, as well as lobbing grenades over the house of your other neighbor.

Despite my bad behavior and willingness to disturb the peace, you would feel a sense of obligation in honoring that "payoff" which was arranged between us??
