I am not a strategist and I am sure if they wanted to, American think tanks and the strategists in the administration can come up with better.

For that to happen, the Administration would have to want to come up with alternatives. They're wedded to the plan and contrary thinking is not encouraged. If there's to be an alternative to the war, it will have to come from outside the Administration, some pundit or think tank or you or me. The anti-war movement doesn't seem to have the answer. They know what they don't like, but they don't seem to know what they want instead. Change requires constructive suggestions, not protests.

Given the risks you are well aware of, I was wondering why you do not seek to end it.

There was a set of risks attached to starting the war and a set of risks attached to the status quo. Once the war was started, the status quo became war. That changes the playing field. Stopping the war doesn't take us back to square one, before the war. We can't go back there. Now that we have a war, the risks attached to proceeding are the same, but there is a new set of risks attached to bailing out. Bailing out doesn't cancel out the damage that has been done although it does mitigate some. Do you really think that mad Islamists are less likely to attack us if we bail? They may be even more likely to attack us because then not only are we all those hateful things they always thought we were, we're more hateful for having attacked Iraq in the first place and even more hateful for being weak quitters.

No, we don't eliminate the risks of this war by stopping it. Opposing the start of the war has different considerations from favoring stopping it.
