THE POSTMAN WOKE us up Saturday with a special delivery from Microsoft.
Yes, the Vole has sent us Beta 2 Kit 2003 which bears the worrying tagline – An easy way to positively impact your business. The beta is being "opened out".

We've positively impacted our business before by installing versions of Microsoft Office that change all the rules, the macros, the glossaries and the file formats.

So we'll be declining the offer on this occasion. We didn't ask for this explosive package that woke us up Saturday, by the way.

But doesn't the packaging more than suggest that His Majesty the Vole is ready to impact a lot of businesses with a release version of Office 2003 sooner than anyone thinks? We think so.

Don't forget that Intel and Microsoft are working on a cunning plan to promote Office 2003 and hyperthreaded Pentium 4s together, in something called the "Fellow Traveller" scheme. And that's not far off.
