It seems to me if you want your army to fight This is not consistent with the news reports I've heard. you micromanage the food and water to make sure they have enough of both A competent White House/DOS is not going to micromanage ANYTHING. The White House's micromanagement of military affairs is what brought us Black Hawk Down. The military is much too large for anyone to micromangage it. Rumsfeld has to be able to delegate tens, maybe hundreds, of levels down an organization chart. I suspect no significant ground war has ever been conducted where minor materiel shortages weren't a problem at times. However, I've heard nothing about shortages in the last several days; I can envision that shortages might have been a problem during the sand storm, which is totally understandable. Basically, I think your argument sucks. As of this today, I haven't heard any military person refer to the current war plan as anything other than brilliant.
