Hi IQBAL LATIF; Re: "The second reason that Iraq cannot be compared to Vietnam since there is no Ho Chi Minh trail from superpowers like China and Russia supporting Iraq. The supply lines for the Viet Cong guerrillas were amply primed by none less than the Chinese and Russians, the two superpowers with ample of cover the possibility for North Vietnam to tie down US correspondingly increased."
(1) The Iraqis don't need supply lines, their country is already flooded with small arms.
(2) If the Vietnam war had been as simple as a case of a supply line, the US would have won the war by cutting that line. Instead, the indigenous rebels in the South put on a very good fight with very little materiel.
(3) The US is in over its head militarily and is diplomatically isolated. Because of this, our ability to prevent, for example, the Syrians from supplying "rebels" in Iraq with arms is very low. The Syrians, of course, understand our predicament and since they think that they are next on the "axis of evil", they, along with the Iranians and even the Saudis, have very good reasons to make sure that our experience in Iraq is as painful and protracted as possible.
