Bear Stearns believes both the U.S. dollar and global stock markets "should be hunkering down for more toil and trouble on the downside in the short term" due to prospects of a lengthening war with Iraq and a worsening economic picture. The firm believes the latest economic data for March -- such as weaker than expected readings on the manufacturing sector -- should act as a "rallying cry" for more interest rate cuts from the Federal Reserve, and for stronger flows into U.S. Treasurys.


A Bear Stearns analyst citing Shakespear's Macbeth is too much to bear. Should I start to worry about my EUR position, I wonder....
